A Project funded by the
European Commission
Main objectives
The main objectives of the Concerted Action
are to:
-
Form a European network of researchers
from all sectors of the hide, skin and leather chain.
-
Utilise this network in order to
co-ordinate research efforts and disseminate results.
-
Develop a reference document outlining
the needs for further work on improving hide and
skin quality.
-
Produce a range of information on
protecting hide and skin quality, in different media
- leaflets, computer training packages and on the
World Wide Web. The present package is part of this.
The tanning industry in Europe is a significant
industrial sector with a turnover approaching 9 billion
Euros, employing some 50,000 people in about 3000 companies.
In an increasingly competitive world market, the quality
of raw material for the industry is a key factor both
in supporting and enhancing the tanning industry's future
success and in helping livestock farmers improve their
returns from the by-products of meat, milk and wool
production.
