Blood samples from both affected and unaffected animals should be submitted.
Particularly useful in pigs and sheep where vesicular material can be
limited.
Plasma (from tubes containing either EDTA or heparin as
anticoagulant) can be examined for FMD virus in animals suspected of being
viraemic.
Serum can be examined for antibodies to FMD virus.
