Control by 'Stamping Out' is applied when outbreaks
occur in countries which are otherwise free from FMD. It is also applied
as the final stage in an eradication campaign to eliminate the virus
once the disease has been controlled.

Control of the movement of animals and removal of the
source of infection are the essential elements in the eradication
of FMD.
An eradication policy involves the following:

slaughter of all infected and in-contact stock

control of animal movements
-
epidemiological investigations
-
import controls.
