South American camelids (Lama glama)

Experiments with South American camelids (Lama glama) have shown that they have a very low susceptibility to infection with FMD virus. In experiments in Argentina, only three of 30 llamas exposed by contact with infected pigs became infected and just two of them developed mouth lesions. Also, in field studies in Argentina in which llamas were present on the same holding as infected cattle, none of the llamas became infected.
