Differential Diagnosis

Pigs - Feet and/or Legs

Swine Vesicular Disease

Presence of vesicular and/or erosive lesions on the coronary bands of the supernumerary and main digits. Severe lameness affecting more than one foot in individual animals. Recumbency, depression and reduced appetite. Erosions at pressure points on the limbs i.e., knees and hocks. High group morbidity but zero mortality.

These are the typical signs produced by virulent strains of virus. Disease can be mild or inapparent following infection by strains of low virulence.

Differentiated from FMD by the absence of both a high mortality rate among piglets and a high herd morbidity.
