Isolating the virus |
|||
|
Virus may be isolated from blood only during the period of viraemia which follows replication of FMDV at the site of primary infection. Viraemia is usually fairly short-lived, starting 1-2 days before the first appearance of clinical signs and ending within 3-4 days, accompanied by a rise in serum antibodies. In sheep, where clinical signs can be mild or absent, viraemia can be more prolonged. |
