Local Consequences of FMD |

|
Although adult animals usually recover quickly from visible signs of viral infection,
FMD has both an immediate and longer term effect on their productivity and usefulness
due to the consequences of internal lesions and/or bacteriological complications.
Introduction of a new serotype or variant may initiate a fresh round of infection
which will exacerbate the previous losses.
