Movement Controls

Surveillance Zone

It is usual, but not universal, that the boundary of the Surveillance Zone follows natural or man-made features. This has the advantage that the zone can be legally defined and is easier to monitor and observe on the ground.

The following restrictions apply within the Surveillance Zone:

• movement of animals only permitted under licence
• only movement of animals directly to slaughter within the Surveillance Zone usually permitted
• ban on markets and shows
• census of susceptible animals carried out.

Measures remain in force until at least 30 days after slaughter and initial cleaning and disinfection on the IP.
