Risk of transporting animals or their products and measures which can be taken

    1. Taking animals from areas of reduced disease prevalence.

    2. Diagnostic screening of selected animals.

    3. Quarantine.

    4. Surveillance during quarantine and transport.

    5. Separation of imported animals or products from susceptible stock.

For animal products additional measures can be taken:

    1. Allowing carcasses to remain at 4ºC for 24 hours prior to freezing to allow acid build-up in the muscle.

    2. Removal of glands and bones from the carcase

    3. Cooking or otherwise heating.

    4. Prohibition of feeding waste food to pigs.
